Flow Kakou is a Hawaii based non-profit organization focused on the arts and culture whose goal is to inspire self-awareness among community members to create culture through movement and play. We’ve created three websites for Flow Kakou, each time focusing on different aspects to fulfill the current needs of the organization.

In addition to web design and development, reCreative’s creative director Meg Raiano had the opportunity to visit Flow Kakou in person in Kauai (at the height of the pandemic, no less) to help craft a new vision and voice for the organization’s digital future. Experiencing the art and Hawaiian culture in real life helped Meg to make more informed decisions in advising the changes that have since been implemented. While we can certainly offer advice based on information we obtain through calls, videos and typed information, experiencing it all first hand can’t be beat.

An emphasis on their numerous projects was a top priority in this most recent redesign of their website. Project Love is a program that brings together an intergenerational mix of dancers and non-dancers, professionals and students to showcase the beauty of the community and its ability to show love. Lessons on Listening is an interactive experience that uses movement, music and entertainment to bring awareness to participants’ ability to observe and receive information. ReCollect is an educational expedition designed to combat the mental health crisis through collaboration in dance, music and theater. Hula Noho is a seated dance workshop designed for those living with limited mobility and paralysis, encouraging and showing Flow Kakou’s commitment to inclusivity.

See It For Yourself

We featured these projects prominently on their website with accompanying videos and more in depth informational material. Flow Kakou’s projects work towards creating a better community and culture through art and movement for all. Joined with the general educational programs they offer, these workshops offer community members a chance to connect with one another in a productive, meaningful way.

We’ve been happy to provide Flow Kakou with creative direction and guidance on their digital presence, especially with their Online Learning projects, The Corner and The Perfect Mistake Podcast. We designed the podcast icon and worked on its branding in collaboration with Matt, the artistic director of Flow Kakou, for its launch in 2022.

Additionally, we advised Matt on various artistic decisions regarding the videos he produced for The Corner, an online learning series that focuses on viewing limitations as the starting point for opportunities. While these two projects were largely a result of the pandemic, they still offer worthwhile learning opportunities to those who want to participate from afar.

In this most recent iteration of Flow Kakou’s website, we focused on revamping their color palette to better reflect their Hawaiian culture and featuring all of their projects and learning opportunities. We also offered more information on the Donate page about the impact any donation would have on the organization and its ability to continue offering these high quality programs to their community.

We are so excited to work with Flow Kakou and help them better accomplish their mission of preserving play and fostering culture amongst community members through art and movement!
