The Dram

The Wallingford Dram is a cozy, moody bar owned and operated by Julian Armstrong of The Wilder + Anju Noodle Bar. Not only was this a favorite haunt of Meg’s when she first moved to Maine during covid-times, it’s also conveniently located right downstairs from our current office space. That makes photoshoot days as easy as going down a flight of stairs. We worked with The Dram on web design + development, menu design updates, + photography for socials + a magazine feature.

Since we moved into our studio space in Kittery Foreside, we’ve had the pleasure of working with Julian on projects for each of his establishments. For The Dram, we did website design + development, menu design updates, + of course, photography.

Julian wanted to have his sites in Squarespace for ease of use for any updates him + his team might have to make in the future. We designed a template in Squarespace that we adjusted for each site to keep the roots the same while letting them stand apart from each other at the same time. Each establishment is so different, but we didn’t want their connection to be lost, so we kept them united by maintaining a similar visual thread.

The Dram used to have about three different menus on three different sheets of paper – a bit much for drinks + a simple bar fare. There was just too much going on. They found that customers were struggling to find what they were looking for + didn’t browse through the other pages when they found the one they wanted. We updated their design to fit on one sheet, folded like a trifold brochure. By using menu hierarchy best practices, we were able to create a design that guides customers instead of confusing or overwhelming them.

We’ve also done photoshoots at The Dram, specifically, one for a feature in Downeast Magazine. Downeast wanted to feature The Dram with a pic of a hot bevvy for their January 2026 issues, but they only had pictures of cold drinks. The solution? An emergency hot toddy shoot, courtesy of Meg, of course.

Plus, just the usual photoshoots of their staples and rotating drinks. While we battled with the setting sun during our first big shoot with them, the second full shoot went a lot smoother.
