Websites Should Evolve, Just like Businesses.
Designing and building a website is no small task. Once you finally have it up and running, it can feel like you need to keep it as is for a while to make it worth all the time and effort you put into it. We’re here to tell you to change your mindset.
Websites aren’t static things that have to last X amount of years before you allow yourself to make changes. If your website no longer fits your business goals, values, or vibe, change it. Make it fit.
Your business is constantly changing and evolving. Restaurants have seasonal menus, technology companies make advancements, artists start new projects and their style evolves. No matter what business you’re in, change is constant. Your website should evolve with your business.
If you change your values, your focus, your branding, or your offerings, your website should reflect those changes. Don’t be afraid to mix it up. As they say, the only constant in life is change. No point in fighting it. Holding onto a dated site and resisting change will only hurt your business by making it feel outdated and boxed in.
Our website has changed quite a few times over the decade that we’ve been around. Most recently, earlier this year we launched a fully redesigned website to reflect our decision to go back to our roots and refocus on web, design, and photography. Our new website puts those pillars front and central, letting everything else take a backseat.
Many of our clients have been with us almost since the beginning, and their sites have gone through multiple iterations as well. OWIT Global is an insurance data technology company that’s constantly growing and changing. We’ve created various versions of their site over the years, always adding new focuses and taking away things that no longer serve them.
Flow Kakou is a movement-based nonprofit located in Hawaii. We’ve worked with them for years and recently gave their site a new look (again). We wanted to showcase their diverse programs and highlight the donations page while refining their color palette to better reflect Hawaiian culture.
Like any business, these two are growing, breathing organisms that can’t be locked into any one identity or design forever. OWIT and Flow Kakou are a couple of the businesses we work with that aren’t afraid to make changes and reiterate when their site is starting to feel dull or misaligned with their current messaging.
Take a page from their book. If you look at your website and don’t feel like it’s *you* anymore, make a change.
