What To Expect From a Photoshoot With Us

You’ve seen our work. You’ve seen how professional brand photography can help your business succeed. You’re ready to take the next step and book a shoot for your business. Here’s what to expect.

We recently did a photoshoot with local chef Catrina of the vegan and gluten-free kitchen, Planted. Going into the shoot, we did some preliminary research on what content other small kitchens were posting and what kinds of images Planted needed.

For every photoshoot, following the kickoff conversation with the client to get an idea of what they’re looking for, we do some general prep work. If we don’t know much about the company or the product or service they’re providing, we do a lot of research, including an assessment of their current content, their competitors, and ideas for what shots would give our client the edge.

We also create a pinboard to show our thoughts and offer a visual representation of our vision for the shoot. We can share this board with the client to make sure we’re on the same page, and they’re happy with our plans. For Planted, our pinboard had both shots of people cooking and shots of the food on its own, both of which we made sure to capture on shoot day.

Depending on the space, we may need to use our lights to get the perfect shot. We always prefer natural lighting, but darker spaces sometimes need some help brightening up. Our *award-winning* photographer, Meg, brings two different cameras with different lenses on each so she can easily swap focal lengths and get the same shot with various fields of vision and depths.

At the Planted photoshoot, Meg often took pictures of the same dishes with each of her cameras to give herself options later when she went back through and picked out the best shots to edit. Sometimes, the slightest difference ends up making one shot better than the others, and we do everything we can to make sure we get that perfect shot.

We also like to make sure there’s some variety in the backgrounds and compositions. In small spaces, this can be difficult, but we can make it work. Although the Planted kitchen is pretty tight, Catrina had tiles we could use as backgrounds, making the limited space a total non-issue.

The biggest thing you should know about a photoshoot with us? It’s a collaborative process. It’s never a one-sided process. Although we always have a vision going in, we always do our best to create what our client is looking for in the style we’re known and loved for.
