What We’ve Learned in 5 Years on the Seacoast

This year we’re celebrating our tenth year in business, the last five of which have been on the seacoast – and we plan on staying put. Here’s what we’ve learned from our time here and why we love it so much.

Over the past five years here in Kittery, we’ve grown so much – not just as a company, but as a part of an incredible, vibrant community. This community of small business owners and creatives around us is one of our favorite things about being based out of the Foreside.

We’ve built relationships with so many awesome folks here, building a little community and putting down roots. The connections here aren’t only good for business – getting partnerships and projects from word of mouth recommendations – but also for us personally, since we tend to work with people we like spending time with. It’s more than just business. It’s about making genuine connections with lovely humans.

We’ve learned that when you like the people you work with, the work gets better. So we’ve focused on prioritizing relationships and letting connections guide our business interactions, creating a community of clients whom we love and are proud to work with.

Deb of Lil’s Cafe, our downstairs neighbor, was one of the first connections we made when we moved into the building. It all started with her walking over and introducing herself one morning. She came over to greet her new neighbor, but once she learned about our work, she decided she could use our help. We’ve since worked with her + her son Michael on projects for each of their businesses and love it every time.

Another close-to-home connection is Julian Armstrong, proprietor of some of our favorite local establishments. We also happen to rent our office space from him, and since moving in, we’ve done consistent work for his three businesses, Anju Noodle Bar and The Wallingford Dram downstairs, and The Wilder in downtown Portsmouth. If we’ve learned anything from our time here, it’s that community is key. It’s all about the company you keep, and here, we’re in great company.

The connections we’ve made are invaluable to our personal well-being and the well-being of recreative as a whole. Being true to who we are shines when we’re in an environment like this, and the truer we are to who we are and what we represent, the more we attract the right people. With everything being so close here, making connections is not only easy, it’s inevitable. We love this small-town feeling and how it makes for a tight-knit community of creatives and entrepreneurs supporting one another.

After five years here, we’ve come to realize that the one thing that makes the seacoast so special isn’t the ocean views or the picturesque neighborhoods, though those a pretty fricken cool too… It’s the people. If you’re looking for an amazing community with hard-working, supportive creatives and dreamers, look no further. There’s no better place than the seacoast.
